Successful FAT for DolWin Alpha project

Friday March 30, 2012 - Last week, representatives of TenneT, ABB and Heerema performed a factory acceptance test (FAT) on the CCTV system Top Side Offshore Technology is providing for the DolWin Alpha HVDC platform. The test was concluded to full satisfaction of all parties involved, leaving Top Side Offshore Technology on track for the next phases of this project.

The DolWin Alpha project is a long-distance, large-scale offshore wind farm connection that will connect 165 kilometres in length with an 800 MW capacity. 90 kilometres of cable will be onshore and 75 will be offshore. The connection is expected to be completed by spring 2013.

Friday March 16, 2012 - Rolloos Systems and Top Side Offshore Technology have donated a pallet of toys to Jongerendagcentrum 12+ Noord in Capelle aan den IJssel.

Managing directors Hans and Arie Rolloos have been ambassadors of Stichting Dada since 2011. At the charity auction held at the annual Dada-Dinner (November 18^th, 2011) they bought one of the pallets of toys, meant for donation to one of the many projects Stichting Dada supports. Last Thursday the pallet was joyfully donated and even more joyfully received.

Jongerendagcentrum 12+ Noord is a daycare facility for teenagers from 12 to 18 with severe mental disabilities. They also offer support for profound (intellectual) (and) multiple disabilities young people.

Stichting Dada aims to contribute to better care for children in hospitals and medical facilities in the Netherlands by realising projects that cannot be financed with regular hospital or health care funds.

Successful FAT for Top Side Offshore Technology

Friday, February 24th 2012 – Top Side Offshore Technology has successfully completed the factory acceptance test (FAT) for the Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. project.

Representatives from Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and Noble Drilling visited Top Side Offshore Technology in Capelle aan den IJssel for three days of testing.

Together with the Top Side Offshore staff, they concluded that all requirements have been met and have given Top Side Offshore the go-ahead for the next phase in the project.

The project consists of delivery of the Rolloos CamPro IP CCTV system for the four Ultra Deepwater Drill Ships HHI is building for Noble Drilling. This successful FAT concludes the system for the first of the four ships and marks the start of building the system for the 2^nd ship, which is scheduled to be finished in June this year.

Top Side Offshore is proud of this success and congratulates their staff with this achievement.

Tuesday January 31st, 2012 – Top Side Offshore Technology based in Capelle aan den IJssel, the Netherlands, is now certified partner of Aimetis.

With the Aimetis intelligent video management and analytic software, Top Side Offshore Technology will be able to add video management functionality to their observation systems.

Instead of just observing, the CCTV system will be able to analyse what it sees and give feedback based on pre-programmed alarm rules. This will make observation interactive instead of static and less dependent on the eyesight of the operator.

The software also provides the possibility to link the CCTV system with other applications, such as e.g. the alarm system, increasing the usability of the information available.

The 360° Panoramic Guide is a communication and visualization tool for various work processes. Hyundai Heavy Industries chooses Top Side Offshore Technology

Friday November 11th,2011 – Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. (HHI) based in Ulsan, South Korea, has selected Top Side Offshore Technology - the Netherlands, to supply the full CCTV package for the four Ultra Deepwater Drill Ships HHI is building for Noble Drilling.

HHI, together with Noble Drilling, has decided to use the Rolloos CamPro IP CCTV system because of its quality, user friendliness, reliability and the possibility for future expansion. The Noble drill ships are a Gusto P10000 design and delivery will start in Q2-2013.

All eyes on safety

Extra pairs of eyes – in this case mechanical – are watching out for safety lapses on floating platforms and rigs, according to Netherlands-based Top Side Offshore Technology.

Top Side’s cameras can be found on deep-water drilling rigs and floating production platforms, including FPSOs. The company has sold cameras to Allseas, Petrobras, Maersk Drilling, Transocean, Diamond Offshore, Ensco and SBM. Shell has installed dozens of different sizes and types of cameras everywhere from the tip of crane booms to the monkeyboard on its tension-leg platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. “We supplied some equipment to BP Mad Dog (spar), we did the Noble Danny Adkins, the Noble Jim Day,” Top Side managing director Arie Rolloos said today at the OTC conference in Houston. “We did Thunder Horse.”

“You can look at the moon pool, the shakers, not only viewing but also recording,” said Top Side International Account Manager Mark van Hoven. “If something happens they want to have it recorded so they can look it up later on for safety purposes and for lessons learned.”

“The amount of incidents on a rig is dropping dramatically,” Rolloos claimed. “Because people are aware if they make a mistake other people will see it.” Up to 100 cameras could be installed on a single deep-water production platform or drilling rig, Rolloos said. “They want to view all the areas,” Rolloos said. “And because there are less people to do all the inspections, instead of sending people down, they use cameras.”

The cameras are almost always on. Some are designed to begin recording when motion detectors are activated if personnel have entered an area, for example. The video is transmitted over the internet by satellite, which means a very wide bandwidth is necessary. Enough floaters are now equipped with battery-operated cameras that the next time one is caught in a hurricane live frames of the whirly winds and whipped-up waves can be seen live or watched later. Top Side is also a part owner of San Diego-based Sidus, which makes cameras for remotely operated vehicles and other subsea applications.

Closed-Circuit TeleVision (CCTV) systems are proving to be an important monitoring tool!

CCTV systems basically consists of one or more cameras, a monitor and a control unit. They are literally everywhere - in shopping centres, schools, parking garages, banks and industrial areas. Primarily aimed at site surveillance in the past, they are now more and more becoming an integral part of production processes. Users want to monitor important processes and machines, not only by means of sensors but also visually. The offshore industry is no exception. But the working conditions on a production platform, drilling rig or FPSO are beyond compare with those on an onshore location. Wind, salt water, vibrations, shocks and a hazardous area require the best. Standard CCTV equipment does not suffice.....

Seafloor monitoring system

Seafloor Observer camera system.

Sidus Solutions, our sister company from San Diego - USA, has developed the innovative Seafloor Observer camera system, featuring remote positioning, lighting, video and still photography through a single Ethernet cable at depths up to 3000 meters.

The Seafloor Observer is an innovative new technology with great potential for a variety of subsea applications including thermal vent monitoring, tsunami detection systems, deep water sea life research and water column evaluation. With a feature rich user interface and with unparalleled ease of use and start up, this system surpasses other deepwater imaging systems currently on the market.

Traditionally, most deepwater video imaging systems have required additional hardware, such as a separate junction bottle or subsea node to distribute video and telemetry signals via Ethernet. Where previous solutions have also required several software packages to interface with various imaging components, the Seafloor Observer is controlled via a single Ethernet cable, from a single console trough an intuitively laid out Graphical User Interface (GUI). Additionally, this system allows other operators at additional remote sites to control all functions through a web interface - without the need for any special hardware or software installed at the remote site.

"The development of the Seafloor Observer is a big leap forward. Not only for Sidus, but for the worldwide subsea industry", said Jeff Gardiner, Chief Engineer at Sidus and Project Manager of the Seafloor Observer development. "Network based systems along with high definition video over coax is the future of our underwater business", he continued.

The Seafloor Observer imaging consists of an 8 megapixel digital still/video color camera, a 200 W/s strobe and a low light sensitive, optically corrected video camera. Remote users can fine tune image settings, including exposure and annotations, capture still images and download to the surface via Ethernet from around the world. MPEG-4 video resolution, compression and video frame rate is remotely adjustable for optimized performance in bandwidth limited applications. Integrated red scaling lasers allows for image scaling and object distance measurement.

Through integration of heavy duty stepping technology and extremely low backlash gearing, pan and tilt functionality is provided by the SS252 robotic positioning device. Delivering an impressive 65 ft-lbs (90 Nm) of torque on each axis, the Seafloor Observer offers high accuracy, 12 bit positioning feedback at speeds up to 40 degrees per second. Whether tracking a slow moving sea slug or chasing a quick cutthroat eel, the system can provide smooth and responsive dynamic monitoring.

Illumination is provided by two dimmable 3000 lumen LED flood lights and six 3000 lumen LED spot lights. These shock resistant LED lights have an operating life of over 50,000 hours and can be configured in a variety of color temperatures and wavelengths. Lighting components can also be remotely turned on and off in various combinations to offer optimized image exposure and low, medium and high power operating modes.

A key design challenge in development of the system was the management of the various interconnect cables between subsea components. Most of the subsea components such as the cameras and lights move along with the pan & tilt positioner, while others such as the LED light ballasts remain stationary on the fiberglass tripod. Customized brackets were introduced to minimize cable strain and prevent cable snags along with specialized wraps for longer cable runs.

Designed for years of continuous subsea deployment, the entire system is manufactured of corrosion proof titanium, beryllium copper and fiberglass. Additional sacrificial zinc anodes are placed on the light heads and junction bottles for further corrosion protection. An integrated ROV grip paddle and heavy duty lifting eyes allow for ease of maintenance and redeployment.

The system is designed to operate on supplied voltages of 24VDC @ 150 Watts maximum for all components, except the six LED spot lights which operate at 375VDC @ 1000 Watts maximum. Input power is through a single multi-cable that carries both voltages as well as CAT-5 Ethernet. A strict system power budget can be satisfied through customized software safeguards that manage individual component power consumption.

SOS Stork Hotlo

Laatste Stork scheepsdieselmotor naar Hengelo

Veel Nederlandse koopvaardijschepen waren in het verleden uitgerust met een Stork scheepsdiesel. De laatste nog werkende Stork scheepsdiesel (een Stork-Hotlo, 6 cylinder) bevindt zich in een zgn. “boorschip” dat werkt in de wateren voor Brazilië. Op niet al te lange termijn zal deze Stork scheepsdiesel worden vervangen door een nieuwe motor. Hiermee zou het verhaal van de “Hotlo” definitief geschiedenis kunnen worden. Een initiatiefgroep wil met steun van particulieren, bedrijven en instanties deze laatste nog overgebleven scheepsdiesel redden en naar de stad Hengelo brengen. Ze hebben hiervoor goede redenen.

Largest cctv system installed on Noble Paul Wolff

July 14, 2009: Top Side Offshore Technology has successfully commissioned their largest CamPro IP rig cctv system so far. The system is installed on the semi submersible drilling rig Noble Paul Wolff and contains 60 cameras, 9 monitors stations and a 4 Terabyte Network Video Recorder. In this project, the driller cctv, marine cctv and surveillance cctv system are combined into one package. The CamPro IP technology made it possible that Noble now has only 1 system instead of 3. The installation took place during the shipyard period in Angra dos Reis, Brazil.
